Live-Blogging “The Imitation of Christ”

Note: part 1 of a series as I live-blog my reading of ”The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas a Kempis

I have had only a passing familiarity with the 14th century Catholic monk Thomas à Kempis, reading a quote from him here or there in various books or devotionals. After Craig L. Adams commented a few posts ago that my blog post made him think of Kempis, I decided to look a little more into the man. I had heard of his famous book “The Imitation of Christ,” but had never picked up a copy.

After reading that the book might well be the second most widely read spiritual book ever written (after the Bible), and that both John Wesley and John Newton attributed their conversion to this book, my intrigue grew and I ordered a copy from Amazon.

It came in today, and frankly I was a bit surprised  to see how small it was. This little book written 600 years ago is the second most read spiritual book ever?

Well, seeing how much so many think of this little book, I have decided to take notes as I read through it and share those here on my blog. I am going to try and take my time with it and stretch the reading of it out for a few weeks. As I go though it, I will post whatever catches my eye.  Some days it may just be a quotation from the book and others it may be an extended reflection on what I have read. I may from time to time interject other unrelated posts as I read though this book as I see fit.
